Instapaper Pro 2.0 released

If you’ve been looking for a simple, clean app for bookmarking pages to read later, you’ve gotta check out Instapaper Pro 2.0 for iPhone and iPod touch. The app downloads copies of webpages in an iPhone-readable format, and that’s just the beginning. You can sort article into folders for better organization, and mark specific articles as favorites, which can then be shared with friends. The app can update articles in the background, so that while you are reading one, the others that you are saved are updated to their most recent versions. There’s also a very cool feature that lets you scroll up and down just by slightly tilting the iPhone towards or away from you ever so slightly. It sounds silly, but it works great.
Instapaper Pro 2.0 is available now in the app store, and is currently selling at a 50% discount at $5, down from the normal $10. Oh, and for all you Tweetie fans, did you know that Tweetie has Instapaper support built-in?

Beejive 3.0 goes live, supports push notifications

Our favorite instant messaging app for the iPhone and iPod touch, Beejive (pronounced bee-hive,) just got updated to version 3.0. While there are a few nice additions, the biggest is that Beejive now supports push notifications on the iPhone. If you are unfamiliar, this means you can tell Beejive to stay persistently connected to Apple’s push servers, even when you close that app. So you can keep a conversation going, while you also check your email, surf the Internet, and more. If you get a new IM, you will get a text notification telling you so, which you can simply close, or use to launch Beejive and take you directly back to the conversation.

TripIt and FlightTrack Pro have teamed for this handy app for travelers. Forward a travel confirmation to the site and they send a master itinerary with maps, city guides and weather guides. It will also provide flight status updates, live tracker maps with weather updates and can track flights of other family members or coworkers. After the $9.99 initial download, future upgrades are free.

You know its baseball season when a new MLB.com At Bat is released. There are two versions of the 2009 app. Lite is free and gives real-time updates, the season’s schedule, and league standings, With the deluxe version, you get live feeds of both regular and post season games with no black-out restrictions, and your choice of home or visiting team announcers. OrbLive streams live television to your iPhone

Here at Gear Live, we’ve been big fans of Orb for quite a while. Back in the original iPhone days, they made an app that was only available on jailbroken phones that we really liked - we just knew it needed to run at 3G speeds to be useful when on the go. The time has finally come, though, as OrbLive has hit the App Store. To back up for a moment, Orb allows you to access files and media on your home computer while on the go. This means that any music on your home computer can now be played on your iPhone from wherever you are. Videos too. Oh, and if you have a TV tuner in your computer, Orb will even allow you to tap into that and watch live television on the go as well. Isn’t that off the hook?
The one caveat for the time being is that the Orb PC software is only available for Windows - but the Orb folks are promising that versions for Mac and Linux are coming soon. We definitely recommend this one - grab the full version of OrbLive for $9.99, or if you are on the fence, there is also a demo version, OrbLive Free.
